FMLA qualifying reasons
A plain-language guide to common qualifying and non-qualifying leave categories.
Not every reason for time off qualifies under FMLA. Common likely qualifying categories include the employee’s own serious health condition, care for a spouse, child, or parent with a serious health condition, birth or placement of a child, and certain military-family needs. Routine short-term illness, ordinary vacation, or a one-off appointment usually do not fit the same way. LeaveCheck reflects that distinction directly in the reason module so users can tell whether the leave reason itself is the likely blocker or whether the real issue sits elsewhere in the coverage analysis.
